Our Approach

We want all learners to feel inspired and be creative. We teach kids to understand science deeply and intuitively. Our students learn by building, touching, playing, and making. At Kaleidoscope, we guide our students through their explorations, supporting them in failure and success, and making sure each one knows they have within them the power to change their world.

With offerings from robotics to spa science, any student aged 5-15 can find something to love. Kaleidoscope makes after-school enrichment, in-school assemblies, clubs and scouts easy by bringing the science to you. We provide everything — all the materials, background information and safety equipment — needed to make your programs a success.

Have a party or event coming up soon? Kaleidoscope will make it one to remember! Kids love being a mad scientist at a Kaleidoscope birthday party, and they always go home with a bag full of projects they completed themselves. Kaleidoscope can also make your next market, festival or fair a success by providing quality educational entertainment.

Our Story

Kaleidoscope Learning Center, LLC was founded by Sandra Roberts in September 2011 in Blairstown, NJ to offer high-quality science, engineering, and math enrichment to children and adults in the area. At the time, we operated a small center on Main Street, where a majority of our programs were held. In October 2013, we closed the doors of the center and became Kaleidoscope Enrichment, because we had so many requests to take our programs all over NJ, PA, and NY. Now Kaleidoscope is mobile, taking great science to schools, libraries, museums, homeschool groups and events throughout the area

About Sandy

Sandra Roberts earned her B.S. in Chemical Biology from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Minor in Literature and Certificates in Chemical Engineering and Computer Science. She did graduate work with Stevens, William Paterson, and Montana State. After working in publishing, theater, and pharmaceutical research for several years, she had her two daughters. It changed her life.

After going back to school and changing careers, Roberts became a middle school science, math, and engineering teacher. She was named a National Science Teacher’s Association New Teacher Fellow after her first year. Flipping classrooms, pushing boundaries, and helping students discover their love for STEM was too much fun to confine to school hours, so she founded Kaleidoscope Enrichment, LLC, to offer after school, homeschooling , and other local programs.

Around the same time, Roberts attended her first Maker Faire in New York City. Inspired by the maker movement, she led her first Maker Camp that summer as one of the first affiliates for the new program. In the years since, her passion for Maker Camp and for sharing the maker mindset with students has only grown, as have her programs throughout northwest NJ.

Roberts regularly brings her Maker Camp projects to Maker Faire and has earned multiple ribbons for her team’s work. She’s presented at Maker Faire, sharing her Maker Camp success tips with fellow educators. Her camp programs have been featured on Makezine.com, she shared her experiences on the Maker Camp Campfire webcasts in 2017, and she was a featured host for Family Maker Camp in 2020. In 2021 Roberts joined the Make: team as the Maker Camp Director, helping to host over 450 camps internationally.

Roberts is the author of  The Big Book of Maker Camp Projects (McGraw-Hill/TAB).

She looks forward to continuing to share the magic of Maker Camp with the world and inspiring other makers and educators to launch their own programs.
